Hi, I'm Ellie Nickel - and I help organizations get healthy so their teams can perform better.
After more than 25 years working in corporate HR and organizational development, I’ve come to believe this: almost every challenge leaders face is actually an organizational health problem.
I’ve supported leaders through misalignment at the top, disengaged teams, unresolved conflict, lack of accountability, and stalled execution. The symptoms vary, but the root cause is almost always the same. Teams don’t struggle because people don’t care or aren’t capable – they struggle because the organization itself isn’t healthy.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s most recognized brands and to facilitate training and conversations across three countries, from large corporate environments to early-stage startups. I’ve been exposed to hundreds of programs and assessment tools along the way. What I’ve seen, time and again, is that no tool, strategy, or initiative can compensate for a lack of organizational health.
The healthiest teams I’ve worked with aren’t perfect. They have hard conversations. They disagree. But at the end of the day they are clear, aligned, and have relationships rooted in trust. Leaders are on the same page. Everyone has the same priorities. Decisions get made. When organizational health is present, performance follows.
This belief didn’t start in a boardroom.
I grew up on a grain and cattle farm in western North Dakota, with a dad who was also a high school wrestling coach. I learned early what it means to show up, do the work, and be accountable to something bigger than yourself. Playing sports reinforced a lesson I still believe today: great teams don’t just happen – they’re built intentionally through trust, clarity, and shared commitment.
Today, everything I do at TeamBetter Consulting is focused on helping leaders and teams build organizational health. I facilitate meaningful conversations and practical change using proven frameworks like CliftonStrengths, Working Genius, and The Advantage®. The tools matter – but only because they help teams get healthier in how they work together.
My approach is practical and no-nonsense. Leaders don’t need more theory; they need a way forward that actually works and sticks.
Outside of work, I’m a lifelong sports fan (college sports especially), enjoy a good slice of pizza and an ice-cold Dr. Pepper, love action movies and old-school TV like Columbo, and I’m currently working on improving my pickleball game.
I’m based in Bismarck, North Dakota, and partner with organizations across the U.S. If you’re ready to stop treating symptoms and start building real organizational health – the kind that creates teams people want to be part of I’d love to learn more about your organization.
Let’s TeamBetter.
